Sudanese passport holders need a Schengen visa to travel to Germany. There is no e-visa and no visa-on-arrival for Sudanese nationals — applications must be submitted in person at an embassy, including a biometric appointment.

Important: Khartoum Embassy Closed

Since the outbreak of war in 2023, the German Embassy in Khartoum has been closed and has not resumed consular services. Sudan-resident applicants must currently apply through the German Embassy in Cairo, meaning travel to Egypt is required to submit the application and attend the appointment.

Mandatory "Prior Consultation" Procedure

Sudanese nationals are subject to the Schengen "prior consultation" procedure, an additional security check where other Schengen states are consulted before a decision is made. In practice, this often extends real processing time to 45+ days, well beyond the standard published timeframe.

• Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the return date
• Completed and signed Schengen visa application form
• Two passport-style photos meeting Schengen specifications
• Hotel booking or proof of accommodation
• Round-trip flight reservation
• Travel medical insurance covering Schengen area, minimum €30,000
• Proof of financial means (bank statement)
• Cover letter / purpose of visit
• In-person biometric appointment at the Cairo embassy
• Completion of the mandatory prior consultation procedure (handled internally by the embassy)
